Clearly, Britain is having a moment. Yes, the nation maybe out of the Euro championships, the economy is flailing and our Wimbledon hopefuls can best be described as plucky. But the Queen’s recent Diamond Jubilee celebrations and next month’s Olympics Games are keeping Blighty in patriotic party mode.
The eight piece capsule collection, which will launch in two parts in mid-July and early August, sees classics such as the Crombie coat cut in tweed, the Biker jacket in the ever-durable Melton wool, and the parka worked in Prince of Wales check. A fitting tribute to the style and indeed Prince Charles, who had the honor of opening the first London Men’s Fashion Week earlier this month.
The collection may read stuffy but even fusty old fabrics can be reinvigorated with features such as domed sleeves, double hems and leather trims. In all honesty, the “Made in Britain” is more than just a catchy, heritage strap line and actually rings true of the craftsmanship, cloth and origin that is most impressive. Three cheers for Topshop, we say.
