A look at Marc Jacobs’s many faces

His outfit at last night’s Met Ball kind of seals it. Marc Jacobs just might be the Madonna of the fashion design world when it comes to reinvention. We look back at his transformation from shy, pale, spectacled hipster to hard-bodied, Mediterranean-looking hotness in a lace dress.
The early years: Long-haired and slightly rumpled like the cool TA from your undergrad days

Hip and lean: Retro tees replace the button-downs and sweaters. The shirts are just tight enough to reveal a hint of a six-pack underneath.

The Caeser chapter: Contact lens! Who knew his eyes were so dreamy? The blue-dyed Caesar haircut highlights the green and amber flecks of his peepers just so.

The skirt stage: With the jawline of a Greek god and rock hard legs, Marc wows us with his body — in a skirt.

That dress: Because those legs mustn’t go to waste, a streamlined dress seems like a natural progression from the kilt. The pilgrim shoes take the look to a new level of boldness. Is this the same shy guy from 2005? It’s hard to believe, but yes. Lady Gaga should take notes.
