Chanel goes back to the future

“New Vintage” the show’s title and theme is fitting for Karl Lagerfeld who could best be described as the perfect paradox. Lagerfeld looked to the Chanel archive for inspiration, with obvious points of reference being the Forties, Sixties and Seventies.
The collection may have worked its way through the eras but one trope remained constant: the shimmer and glisten of silver that ran through the tweed suits and hose.
Yes, there’s a nostalgic element to the show but on Chanel’s 80th anniversary the Kaiser seems keen to demonstrate that the house’s classic tweed thread can still be given a modern twist.
